Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve at the wrist, and that nerve runs all the way from the neck. A first visit checks the whole path of it, works on any mechanical contributor found along the way, and gets you to the right care for the wrist when that is what is needed.
Carpal tunnel is a specific, well-defined problem, and the most valuable thing a chiropractor brings to it is a clear assessment of the whole nerve path. Here is a plain-language look at what it is, what contributes to it, and how to get to the right answer quickly.
The median nerve runs from your neck, down your arm, and through a narrow passage at the wrist called the carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel syndrome is what happens when the nerve is squeezed in that passage: the tunnel narrows, or the tissue inside it swells, and the nerve protests with numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand, classically in the thumb, index, and middle fingers.
The usual contributors:
That last point is why a whole-path look can be worth it. Sometimes what looks like pure carpal tunnel has a contributor higher up the nerve, at the neck or the forearm, and that part is mechanical. But true compression at the wrist is a wrist problem, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.
We assess the whole path of that nerve and work on the mechanical contributors we find along it, at the neck, shoulder, and forearm, which for a good number of people turns out to be a real part of the picture. Where the wrist itself is the whole story, we will say so and get you to the right care for it quickly.
So a first visit is about getting you the right answer, which may or may not be us:
The first goal is to work out what is actually driving it, then tell you honestly what will help and get you to it quickly.
No referral is needed to book, and we will go over the costs with you up front so there are no surprises. Costs depend on your plan, and if all you need is an assessment and a straight answer, that is a short conversation and we will keep it that way.
We cannot promise a specific outcome or what your insurance will cover, and we will not promise to resolve carpal tunnel itself, because the evidence does not support that claim. What we can promise is an honest look, a straight answer, and a fast pointer to the right care.
